There is a particular kind of woman the Dutch do very well: unhurried, well put together, entirely unbothered by trend cycles. JC Sophie dresses her. Founded in 2014 by Richard and Joannette van der Mark — a couple who began from a home atelier with a shared instinct for what women actually reach for — the label has spent a decade making the case that ease and elegance are not opposing forces.

Understated cool that over achieves in the style stakes

That mood is worth describing, because it is the whole proposition. Nothing shouts. Colours are muted and subtle.

Silhouettes skim rather than cling. It is clothing built for relaxed dressing, the sort you put on at eight in the morning and are still comfortable in at eight at night, without ever having thought about it again.

"JC Sophie really stands out to me as a brand to watch"

I am always on the look out for brands that are in their own way, timeless. Collections that speak to multi generations and can easily slot into customers existing wardrobes.

JC Sophie is such a brand

The oversized shirt, reconsidered

Oversized shirts have become something of a shorthand for modern ease and JC Sophie has nailed this look with it's modern subtle stripes.

Worn open over a fine knit vest, tucked loosely into a wide-leg trouser, or belted as a light layer over a slip dress, it is a piece that does four jobs before lunch.

This is the quiet cleverness of the collection: garments designed to coordinate with one another, so the wardrobe compounds rather than fragments.

Soft tailored outerwear

The same thinking carries into the coats. Soft tailored outerwear is the natural extension of the brand's approach. Nothing is armoured or rigidly constructed, which is precisely why it works: outerwear that behaves like a cardigan gets worn far more often than outerwear that requires an occasion.

Colour stays in the same tonal family as everything underneath.

The tailoring is where the label makes its most modern argument. Soft casual jackets, pull-on relaxed trousers with a proper leg line.

That flexibility is the point. The same three pieces move from a client meeting to a school run to dinner with almost nothing changed but the shoes.
